Even the Roast Beast!

For the first time, I hosted Christmas. Well, sort of. We had drinks and plenty of nibbles at my place, then went to my aunt's for a light supper. My brother surveyed the appetizer spread (dates wrapped w/ bacon, spinach-stuffed deviled eggs, kopanisti, chicken cashew pate, spiced nuts, and so on...), looked at me, and asked, "This is all gluten-free?" When I nodded "yes," he was gobsmacked. "But... it's GOOD!"

Holiday Gift Ideas

Need a last-minute gift for those hard-to-buy-for-friends? Check these out:

1. Awwww, it's so cute! My First Taser.
2. Handbags are always a good choice. And these double as nightmare fuel!
3. Do you someone who treats his Roomba vacuum like a member of the family? Maybe they'll like to dress it up.
4. OK, I don't have kids, so maybe moms will find this adorable. I think it's creepy.
5. I do have cats. But I would never subject them to this.
6. Is former-sexy-rocker-now-sad-karaoke-crooner Rod Stewart on your list? Something from the Lionel catalog would make him happy. Who knew?

Synchronicity

I'm having a very strange relationship with the music I play in my car...

Last week I drove home from work, listening to Say Hello, by Rosie Thomas. As I heard the lyric, "There's an airplane in the sky, with a banner right behind, " I saw an airplane in the sky, with a banner right behind.

Then on Saturday night, I was driving home from a Christmas party and listening to the local college station. They were playing a block by city legends, Los Number 3 Dinners. So, as I'm driving down Broadway in Alamo Heights, I'm listening to a song about driving down Broadway in Alamo Heights.

Why take a chance? I think the next song on my playlist will be Barenaked Ladies' If I Had a Million Dollars.
